Nevermore Night Market: Our Boozy Book Fair Debut (and the Start of a New Spooky Tradition)
When the clock struck 6 PM on October 24th, something electric stirred in Lake Charles. The lights dimmed, the candles flickered, and the air filled with the sweet scent of Witches’ Brew and brand-new books. Our very first Nevermore Night Market officially came to life—part haunted soirée, part book lover’s dream, and a total Halloween fever dream worthy of Hocus Pocus, The Craft, and maybe a little Wednesday Addams flair for good measure.
We weren’t entirely sure how this idea would fly—an adult boozy book fair? In costume? During spooky season? But y’all didn’t just show up—you showed out. From readers in lace gloves and capes to vendors slinging gothic candles, tarot decks, and darkly divine reads, the vibes were straight out of a Tim Burton set.
Local authors signed books and chatted with readers all night.
Vendors tempted everyone with wickedly delicious treats—because what’s a night market without something sweet to sink your fangs into?
And the acoustic duo Clay and Markie completely enchanted the crowd, performing eerie but beautiful versions of our favorite ‘90s and ‘00s songs—yes, even that one you swore you’d forgotten until they hit the chorus. (Cue the nostalgic chills.)
Was it perfect? Not yet. The first year of anything never is—it’s the pilot episode, the “Season 1” glow-up in progress. But it was ours. And we learned so much: what worked, what we’ll tweak, and what we’ll absolutely bring back for Nevermore Night Market 2026—which yes, is already in the works. 🖤
We’re brewing up even more magic for next year, including something extra special for the ones who were with us from the start. (Let’s just say it’s an exclusive kind of enchantment for the ride-or-die ravens who helped us build this new tradition.)
