Used Book Exchange Guidelines

Welcome to The Charmed Page! We’re excited to help you turn your pre-loved books into future reading adventures.

General Guidelines for Book Appraisal

At The Charmed Page, we believe in giving books a second life while maintaining a high-quality selection for our readers. If you'd like to trade your gently used books for store credit in the form of loyalty points, please follow these guidelines:

Store Credit Through Loyalty Points

  • Books are exchanged for loyalty points, which can be redeemed for coupons at The Charmed Page.
  • Store credit is not based on retail value, even for brand-new books. Points are determined by demand and condition of the book.

Condition Guidelines

To ensure the best experience for our readers, we can only accept books that meet the following criteria:

  • No water damage: Covers and pages must be dry and intact.
  • No yellowing or stained pages: Pages must be clean and in excellent condition.
  • No broken or cracked spines: The book should be structurally sound and able to stand on a shelf.
  • No ripped pages or covers: All pages and the cover must be intact and untorn.
  • No writing or markings in the book: Includes dedications, notes, or annotations.
    • Exception: Author signatures are welcome!
  • Titles with low demand: We reserve the right to decline books based on our inventory and customer interest.

Exclusions

We currently do not accept:

  • Bibles
  • Textbooks
  • Encyclopedias
  • Outdated reference books
  • Magazines or journals

Credit Process

You must have a customer account in order to be issued "credit" aka loyalty points.

  • Loyalty Points Earned:
    • Credit is issued as loyalty points based on the appraised value of the book(s).
    • Points can be accumulated and redeemed for store coupons to purchase new or used books.
  • Redeeming Loyalty Points:
    • Redeem points during checkout for savings on your next book haul.
    • Points cannot be exchanged for cash or other non-bookstore items.

Donation Options for Unaccepted Books

If a book does not meet our criteria or we are unable to offer credit, you have the option to:

  • Donate to Educators and Free Libraries:
    • Contribute to our adoption boxes for educators or community free libraries.
  • Charity Donations:
    • Allow us to donate your unaccepted books to a charity or non-profit organization.
  • Seasonal Book Sales:
    • Books may be used in our spring and summer charity book sales to benefit local causes.

By participating in our book credit program, you’re supporting the community and helping promote literacy while enjoying rewards for your contributions. We’re thrilled to have you participate in our program—thank you for supporting The Charmed Page!

Have questions about what books we’ll take? Feel free to ask our team before bringing them in. Happy reading!

FAQs

Can I visit the bookstore before booking?

Absolutely. We encourage hosts to visit the store so they can see the available space and decide whether it works for their guest count and preferred setup.

Can guests shop during the shower?

Yes. Private shopping can be incorporated into the event, and guests may purchase books and merchandise during the celebration.

Guest purchases are separate from the event fee unless specifically included in your package.

What is a Bride’s TBR Registry?

The bride creates a wishlist of books she would love to own. Guests can purchase books from the registry as shower gifts and add a personalized message using one of our bookplates.

It’s basically a wedding registry, but with fewer towels and significantly more fictional men.

Can guests bring books instead of cards?

Yes. A Books Instead of Cards station can be included so guests can give the bride a book with a personal message written inside or on a custom bookplate.

Can we bring food and drinks?

Food and nonalcoholic beverages may be permitted with prior approval. All refreshments must be kept away from bookstore merchandise and any restricted areas.

Can we decorate the bookstore?

Simple decorations may be allowed with prior approval. Decorations cannot damage the walls, shelves, furniture, books, or merchandise.

Glitter, confetti, open flames, and difficult-to-clean decorations are not permitted.

Are books, favors, and the bride’s gift basket included?

Books, favors, gift baskets, and personalized items are available as package additions unless otherwise stated in your quote.

Custom and bulk orders may require advance payment.

Can the Bridal Book Bar come to any venue?

The Bridal Book Bar may be available for venues in Lake Charles and surrounding areas. Travel fees may apply depending on the location.

The host or venue must provide enough space and appropriate tables for the pop-up display.

How much does a bridal shower cost?

Pricing depends on the date, time, event length, location, customization, staffing needs, and selected additions.

After reviewing your inquiry, we’ll provide a personalized quote.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend submitting your inquiry at least two months before your bridal shower, especially for Saturdays or events requiring custom favors, bookplates, gift baskets, or bulk book orders.

Earlier inquiries are always welcome and offer the best selection of available dates. Events requested with less notice may still be considered based on availability, but customization options may be limited.

Submitting an inquiry does not reserve your date. Your booking is confirmed once the required agreement and reservation retainer have been completed.
